Our new 2021/22 season has plenty on offer for little ones and their families, from the heartfelt performance it’s ok from Little Big Dance, to the funky family adventure of Groove Into The Woods, and our Christmas show Stick Man. Keep an eye out for our family shows in the coming year, including the magical Zog and the Flying Doctors, landing at the Gulbenkian in June 2022.
Autumn:
Little Big Dance: it’s ok – Sat 25 Sep, times vary – Book Tickets
In a story full of care, comfort and kindness, follow Laura on a journey of discovery as she navigates feelings of uncertainty, fear, excitement, anger and joy whilst being supported and encouraged by Claire every step of the way. Join the dance performers as they discover that no feelings are right or wrong; they’re just feelings and it really is ok to feel them.
2065 – Fri 5 & Sat 6 Nov, 11am & 1:30pm – Book Tickets
The year is 2065; the people are stifled under an oppressive regime made up of all-powerful corporations. We follow a group of rebels who live outside the system and believe things can change for the better. How can they remind people of a time when things were different? 2065 is a futuristic sensory extravaganza for audiences with profound and multiple learning disabilities.
Groove Baby: Groove Into The Woods – Sat 13 Nov, 11am & 1pm – Book Tickets
Come on a jazz and funk fuelled family adventure into the deep dark woods. Who will we find and will they be bad or good? Specially designed for ages 3 – 7 and their grown-ups! A fun mixture of animation, interactive music making and solid groove from the Groove Baby Organ Trio.
Christmas:
Stick Man – Sat 4 & Sun 5 Dec, times vary – Book Tickets
Touching, funny and utterly original, Freckle Productions’ delightful adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s Stick Man is back in town! What starts off as a morning jog becomes quite the misadventure for Stick Man: a dog wants to play fetch with him, a swan builds a nest with him, and he even ends up on a fire! How will Stick Man ever get back to the family tree?
2022:
Hibernation – Fri 21 – Sun 23 Jan, times vary – Book Tickets
As the nights draw in and temperatures drop, staying wrapped up in our nice warm beds seems like a great idea. But have you ever imagined what it would be like to stay asleep for the whole of winter? Some creatures are experts and they’re here to show you how. Join award-winning Little Bulb Theatre (house band in CBeebies ‘The Nutcracker’) as together we prepare to take a very long nap! Audience members are encouraged to bring a favourite blanket and any cuddly friends who would like to tag along.
Motionhouse: Nobody – Fri 8 – Sat 9 Apr, 2pm & 7pm – Book Tickets
Fast-moving and highly physical, Nobody explores the tension between our inner lives and how we make sense of the world around us. Motionhouse’s renowned dance-circus style combines with mesmerising choreography to tell this emotional and ultimately uplifting story, full of twists and turns.
Zog and the Flying Doctors – Tue 28 & Wed 29 Jun, times vary – Book Tickets
Based on Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s bestselling sequel, Freckle Productions (Zog, Stick Man, Tiddler & Other Terrific Tales, Tabby McTat) bring the creative team behind Zog, Emma Kilbey and Joe Stilgoe, back together for this truly modern take on the classic fairy tale of Zog, super keen student turned air-ambulance – who still lands with a crash-bang-thump.
