Gulbenkian Performance Company

If you want to build up your performance skills why not join our Gulbenkian Performance Company for anyone aged 19-25 (plus school leavers aged 18).

Meeting on a weekly basis during University term times, we will spend a couple of hours a week creating work as a group in a fun, relaxed environment, led by experienced director and facilitator Emma Willatts. There is no pressure to have performed before, and you do not need to be at University to take part.

Monday evenings 18:30 – 20:30 during University term time, either at Gulbenkian or a space on the University of Kent campus, starting on Monday 30th September

This group will meet every Monday evening between 6.30 and 8.30pm, at the University of Kent campus, to develop a range of acting skills, work towards specific goals and performances and respond to exciting pre-professional briefs, as well as being considered for professional opportunities when they arise.

At Gulbenkian, we think it is important that our groups are accessible, therefore we will not be auditioning for GPC but we do ask that you are able to attend for the majority of the weeks so we can work towards a high-quality end product each term.

For term 1 (Sep-Dec) you will be working with resident Gulbenkian facilitator and director, Emma Willatts, alongside award-winning Kent based company, Half A String, to develop an enhanced wrap around experience for Gulbenkian’s Christmas show, The Snowsmith

There are a few spaces still available, book now!

These weekly workshops are FREE. However, there is the option to donate either 100% or 50% of the costs which will go to supporting our Creative Engagement work with young people.

Members sign up on a termly basis. Please let us know beforehand if you will be absent from a session. Unauthorised absences may lead to your place being offered to someone on our waiting list. If we have sold out please email us at the below address to be put on a waiting list for the term.

You can receive monthly updates about our groups/events for 13-25 year olds by signing up to our ART31 Mailing list: to do this log into your Gulbenkian Website Profile, go to ‘Interests’ and tick ‘yes’ for receiving emails for ‘Creative opportunities for young people from ART31 Kent’.

ART31

ART31 takes its name from Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child, which states that ‘Children have the right to relax and play, and to join in a wide range of cultural, artistic and other recreational activities’.

ART31 is a vision created with, by, and for young people in Kent, championing the belief that all children and young people have an entitlement to access high quality arts and culture, to empower them to achieve their creative potential, and to genuinely engage young people as equal partners in any decision making that affects them.

The ART31 Youth Board is made up of young people from across Kent aged 13-25 who steer its governance, and influence policy and practice across the county and beyond, challenging the creative sector to examine existing ways of working and integrate young people into the core of their practice.
