Christmas closure from 20 Dec

Gulbenkian is closed from Fri 20 Dec for the Christmas period. Our Cafe reopens on Thu 2 Jan and our event programme restarts from Mon 13 Jan.

Artwork and event submissions are now open for ART31’s ‘BounceBack Festival’!

9 Apr 2021

ART31 is hosting a new Youth Takeover Festival: ‘BounceBack’! The festival is about celebrating the creativity young people have expressed over the past year and giving a platform to young creative voices in Kent. Those artworks and events that are selected will be presented online from 24th-27th June, with (hopefully) some live, in person events at Gulbenkian Arts Centre, on Saturday 26th June 2021.

We want to showcase original art and creativity of all kinds – so whether you’ve made a music video, written a poem, created some amazing artwork, animated a film or done something else we couldn’t even think of – whatever it is, if you have had to be creative when making it and it’s original work, then it counts!

ART31 is committed to equality, diversity and inclusivity so applications are open to anyone aged 13-25 in Kent and Medway – regardless of ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexuality, disability or religion.

We especially want to hear from young people that feel their voice isn’t usually heard or represented.

We are looking for digital events and content this year, although it may be possible to present some live, in-person events if Covid restrictions allow.

There are different application forms, depending on who you are:

1. If you are a young person aged 13 – 25 living in Kent please apply here.: https://kent.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/art31-bounceback-festival-application-young-people-apr

2. If you are an organisation that works with 13 – 25 year olds in Kent please apply here. https://kent.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/art31-bounceback-festival-application-organisations-ap

The form should take about 20 – 25 minutes to complete. It will ask you for information about who is involved and the proposed artwork/event.

Deadline for submissions: 30th April 2021 and we will let you know the outcome by 14th May 2021.
Good luck!

Grants/ Funding:
We have a limited number of grants of up to £500 available for organisations to submit work or events for the festival. There is a section to complete on the application form for details.

If you are a young person applying as an individual and you require funding to make your submission possible (e.g. to cover travel expenses or materials), please contact us to discuss this before submitting your application: creativeengagement@kent.ac.uk

ART31

ART31 takes its name from Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child, which states that ‘Children have the right to relax and play, and to join in a wide range of cultural, artistic and other recreational activities’.

ART31 is a vision created with, by, and for young people in Kent, championing the belief that all children and young people have an entitlement to access high quality arts and culture, to empower them to achieve their creative potential, and to genuinely engage young people as equal partners in any decision making that affects them.

The ART31 Youth Board is made up of young people from across Kent aged 13-25 who steer its governance, and influence policy and practice across the county and beyond, challenging the creative sector to examine existing ways of working and integrate young people into the core of their practice.
