We offer a captioned subtitled screening on a Monday evening screening where available. If Monday or Captioned subtitles are unavailable we endeavour to screen another film that week with captioned subtitles or foreign language subtitles.

Relaxed performances:

Relaxed Performances/screenings are specifically designed to welcome people who will benefit from a more relaxed performance environment, including guests on the Autistic Spectrum, sensory and communication disorders, or a learning disability or parents who want to attend our performances with young children.

There is a relaxed attitude to noise and movement in the auditorium and we make some small changes to the light and sound effects. Find out more about Accessible Film Club.

Pre-show visits/Touchtours:

We offer pre-show visits and touch tours on some events.  Please contact our Front of House manager Helen on gulbfoh@kent.ac.uk or email boxoffice@kent.ac.uk.

Seat Sizes:

The seats in our theatre narrow from the centre out. The widest seats are 44 cm wide (side to side) and 46 cm long (front to back). There is a gap of 7cm which is the arm rest and the leg room is 40cm. There are exceptions to this leg room specifically in the front row. For more information or to discuss booking an armless chair, please email boxoffice@kent.ac.uk

Access Scheme
Gulbenkian Arts Centre strives to be inclusive and welcoming to all. Our building has level access with various facilities available and we provide a wide variety of accessible performances, classes and activities.

To ensure the best use of our facilities please notify the Tickets & Information Office of your requirements when booking by email: boxoffice@kent.ac.uk.

Join our Access Scheme for free carer tickets, and easier online booking for wheelchair spaces.

The Gulbenkian Access Scheme is free for people with physical, sensory or learning disabilities.

When you sign up, we ask that, if possible, you let us know about your needs so that we can improve our audience experience to make it inclusive and accessible to all attendees.

By joining our Access Scheme, you may be entitled to concessionary ticket prices for some events, or a free companion seat (subject to availability and may not be available for certain performances). If you are a wheelchair user, the scheme gives you access to book wheelchair spaces online.

We are now opening our Access Scheme to Under 16s who require more than one carer/adult with them in order to attend at our venue or who are wheelchair users needing to book a wheelchair space online. Joining the scheme will enable you to select a free carer for the second carer’s ticket (the first carer needs to pay as normal, as per any other adult attending with a child).

ART31

ART31 takes its name from Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child, which states that ‘Children have the right to relax and play, and to join in a wide range of cultural, artistic and other recreational activities’.

ART31 is a vision created with, by, and for young people in Kent, championing the belief that all children and young people have an entitlement to access high quality arts and culture, to empower them to achieve their creative potential, and to genuinely engage young people as equal partners in any decision making that affects them.

The ART31 Youth Board is made up of young people from across Kent aged 13-25 who steer its governance, and influence policy and practice across the county and beyond, challenging the creative sector to examine existing ways of working and integrate young people into the core of their practice.
