Welcome Week has arrived!

18 Sep 2025

Welcome week is finally here and we are excited to be welcoming back returning students and greeting new arrivals!

Who are we?

Gulbenkian is your art centre on campus where you can find inspiration and community. Whether it’s your first time with us, or you are a seasoned Gulbenkian visitor, you are always welcome to come along and enjoy an indie film or a blockbuster with your friends, see an unforgettable theatre performance, laugh along at a stand-up show, feel the beat in your bones at a music gig, have a study session over a cup of delicious coffee and a slice of cake.

What can I do during welcome week?

To celebrate welcome week we are hosting a range of free activities and we invite students to free cinema screenings every day during welcome week (plus half-price cinema for the entirety of October). There’s no better time than now to give yourself a taste of all that Gulbenkian can offer with our range of free events taking place during welcome week – you can join us in Colyer Fergusson Hall for a screening of Mean Girls, or attend a stand-up comedy show, or take part in a 2000s trivia quiz, and more! For the full schedule of activities and screenings have a look HERE.

How can I get involved?

Gulbenkian Arts Centre acts as a catalyst in developing and curating ideas, spaces and emerging talent. The empowerment of children and young people is at the core of our activity. Our work with young people includes ART31, Youth Theatre, TECH31 and SCREEN31.

Throughout the year, there are many ways you can get involved, if you love to perform, learn, make friends and have fun, you could join the Gulbenkian Theatre Makers, you could also join Gulbenkian’s Student Committee for the Arts as an ambassador, programmer and events organiser on campus, and get yourself career-ready for the creative industries!

Do I get any special offers?

We offer great discounts on film, theatre, music gigs and food for students, for example, students get 2for1 cinema tickets every Tuesday – making a cinema ticket £3 per student! Plus, our student membership is £5 a year, as a member you get 20% off Gulbenkian Cinema, 40% off selected theatre tickets, and 10% off everything in Gulbenkian Cafe/Bar. More on membership here.

ART31

ART31 takes its name from Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child, which states that ‘Children have the right to relax and play, and to join in a wide range of cultural, artistic and other recreational activities’.

ART31 is a vision created with, by, and for young people in Kent, championing the belief that all children and young people have an entitlement to access high quality arts and culture, to empower them to achieve their creative potential, and to genuinely engage young people as equal partners in any decision making that affects them.

The ART31 Youth Board is made up of young people from across Kent aged 13-25 who steer its governance, and influence policy and practice across the county and beyond, challenging the creative sector to examine existing ways of working and integrate young people into the core of their practice.
