Facilitator Training Course – Call out!

19 Nov 2025

Throughout 2026, we will be running a Facilitator Training course that has a focus on developing work with young people, with a shared ethos of valuing youth voice and building up the skills and confidence of each individual within a playful, supportive and ambitious environment.

The training will take place over 7 sessions across the year and each session will be focused on a different theme, including Planning, Creating the Right Space and Adaptability. The programme draws on theatre facilitation, but you’ll gain techniques that will be applicable across a range of creative settings.

The course will be run by our in-house Creative Engagement Practitioner, Emma Willatts, who has worked with many different companies including the Old Vic, Bigfoot, Company Three, The Marlowe Theatre and The Actors’ Lounge.

Open to anyone 18+ who is interested in developing their skills as facilitator. We are offering this training as a Pay What You Decide opportunity. To register your interest, please fill out the questionnaire here, we will then be in touch in the new year. If you have any further questions please email creativeengagement@kent.ac.uk

Here is some feedback from our previous courses!

“The course gave me a safe, welcoming space to network with other professionals to share ideas and knowledge and have made lasting friendships”

“I developed my skills and got a better understanding of what theatre facilitation is, and the best thing was meeting other fellow creative people who wanted to achieve the same.”

“I gained invaluable knowledge into planning and devising my own activities and gained experience with leading sessions I had planned which has helped me with job interviews and workshops”

“If I could do it again, I 1000% would. Bravo!”

ART31

ART31 takes its name from Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child, which states that ‘Children have the right to relax and play, and to join in a wide range of cultural, artistic and other recreational activities’.

ART31 is a vision created with, by, and for young people in Kent, championing the belief that all children and young people have an entitlement to access high quality arts and culture, to empower them to achieve their creative potential, and to genuinely engage young people as equal partners in any decision making that affects them.

The ART31 Youth Board is made up of young people from across Kent aged 13-25 who steer its governance, and influence policy and practice across the county and beyond, challenging the creative sector to examine existing ways of working and integrate young people into the core of their practice.
