    Following on from ‘Showcase Scotland’ and ‘The Visit’ - this special tour is initiated by Showcase Scotland Expo, to actively promote Scottish folk, roots, and acoustic artists by facilitating performances at key venues in England and abroad.

    Since 2017 Folk in the Barn has been fortunate to attend both of these Expo events and been privileged to see and hear some truly outstanding young Scottish Artists.  We are honoured and excited to now be able to bring some of the best of these musicians down to East Kent to share with our Folk in the Barn audience, as part of this tour.

    Hannah Rarity

    Award-winning singer, Hannah Rarity, honed her craft at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, graduating in 2016 with a First Class BA (Hons) in Scottish Music.  Hannah has made a lasting impression since being warmly embraced by the folk world, winning BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year (2018) and recording and touring with top acts Blazin’ Fiddles, Rura, Niteworks and Cherish the Ladies.  Both of her albums ‘Neath the Gloaming Star’ (2018) & ‘To Have You Near’ (2022) have been shortlisted for Album of the Year at the BBC Alba Scots Trad Music Awards and in 2022, she was invited to work as co-musical director for the Opening Concert of Celtic Connections.

    Performing a carefully chosen mix of traditional, contemporary and self-penned material, she earns comparisons to the likes of Eva Cassidy and Cara Dillon, whilst standing confidently in her own right. Equally at home in a number of genres, she is a sought-after collaborator, session vocalist and tutor.

    Heron Valley

    Have remained a driving force in the new generation of Scottish folk music since their 2014 inception,  a band whose powerful sound has consistently ignited stages and hearts around the world.

    Renowned for their exhilarating live performances featuring high-octane bagpipe and fiddle tunes backed by an unrelenting rhythm section, Heron Valley have electrified audiences everywhere from the legendary Towersy, Belladrum and Shrewsbury Festivals to international appearances at Cèltica, Festival interceltique de Lorient, Folk am Neckar and numerous tours and shows across the globe.

    In 2024, the band released their highly anticipated album Oak Mountain, a vibrant showcase of their evolution and energy. Blending fiery instrumental sets with heartfelt songwriting and singing, Oak Mountain captures the band’s signature spirit while exploring fresh musical landscapes that nod to their roots and look boldly to the future. Their sets race from reels and jigs to evocative Scottish songs and powerful original material, all delivered with a passion that’s impossible to resist.

    Whether on a festival main stage, an intimate folk club, or a raucous dance tent, they’re guaranteed to lift the roof and leave the crowd calling for more.

    ART31

    ART31 takes its name from Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child, which states that ‘Children have the right to relax and play, and to join in a wide range of cultural, artistic and other recreational activities’.

    ART31 is a vision created with, by, and for young people in Kent, championing the belief that all children and young people have an entitlement to access high quality arts and culture, to empower them to achieve their creative potential, and to genuinely engage young people as equal partners in any decision making that affects them.

    The ART31 Youth Board is made up of young people from across Kent aged 13-25 who steer its governance, and influence policy and practice across the county and beyond, challenging the creative sector to examine existing ways of working and integrate young people into the core of their practice.

    Set over two days TECH31 is a free workshop designed to provide 13-25 year olds with an opportunity to develop their skills in sound, lighting, stage management and much more. 

    National Theatre Connections – Gulbenkian Young Company

    NT Connections is the National Theatre’s nationwide youth theatre festival. Each year it offers a unique opportunity for youth theatres and school theatre groups to stage new plays written for young people by some of theatre’s most exciting playwrights, and to perform in leading theatres across the UK.
