Presented by Canterbury Choral Society

Join Gareth Malone for an inspirational day singing Fauré's Requiem.

Broadcaster, choirmaster and Patron of Canterbury Choral Society, Gareth Malone OBE has helped galvanise the British choral scene through his award-winning BBC series, concert tours and recordings.

You will spend the day discovering Fauré’s masterpiece with Gareth, accompanied by a leading organist. Participants will spend time on physicality, vocal technique, ensemble, listening, engaging with text and performance skills, and the workshop will conclude with a performance of the piece, where we’ll be joined by some young soloists!

This Choral Workshop is open to adult singers and young people from age 12 upwards. You’ll need some ability to read music but do not need to be vocally trained.

Registration: 10.00-10.50. The workshop will begin promptly at 11.00.

Music: You will need to bring your own music. We’ll be using the NOVELLO EDITION vocal score for Fauré Requiem (full choir version). New copies are available from www.scorestore.co.uk and other online sellers, and you can often get good second-hand copies through outlets such as ebay. Gareth will be happy to sign your copy in return for a donation to our chosen charity, Porchlight

ART31

ART31 takes its name from Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child, which states that ‘Children have the right to relax and play, and to join in a wide range of cultural, artistic and other recreational activities’.

ART31 is a vision created with, by, and for young people in Kent, championing the belief that all children and young people have an entitlement to access high quality arts and culture, to empower them to achieve their creative potential, and to genuinely engage young people as equal partners in any decision making that affects them.

The ART31 Youth Board is made up of young people from across Kent aged 13-25 who steer its governance, and influence policy and practice across the county and beyond, challenging the creative sector to examine existing ways of working and integrate young people into the core of their practice.
