On Saturday May 2nd 2026 ACS, with professional soloists and orchestra, will perform a programme of choral music by Duruflé, Finzi and Rutter.
The concert explores the concepts of love and self-sacrifice, and how these have been expressed in words and music for almost 800 years.
The Duruflé Requiem (1947) and Finzi Anthem, Lo, the full final sacrifice (1946) are near contemporary works, with Rutter’s Gloria first performed in 1974.
All three modernists are looking back – Duruflé to the Gregorian chant of the Benedictines, Finzi to 16th century poetry about 13th century theology, whilst Rutter returns and builds on the ancient Latin text of the Gloria. The pieces, whilst all written in the 20th Century, present soaring melodies and beautiful orchestral sounds.
