Presented by Kent Law School

From the team who brought you 'A Question of Intent' last year, we present the premiere of 'A Question of Consent'

For lawyers and fans of courtroom dramas, this unique and highly entertaining event is your chance to sit in on a mock trial. Charlie Ogden was a first year student at Gulbenkian University. On 25th November 2025, she met the defendants, Jordan Ashe and Ellis Dance in a bar. She knew Ellis and found him exciting and fun. Ellis and Jordan agreed to take her back to the flat which Jordan shared with Martine. Jordan had introduced Martine to heroin, which he (and Ellis) liked using. At the flat, Ellis and Jordan gave Charlie alcohol and cocaine. Ellis persuaded Charlie to try heroin. She was not keen but agreed.

As a result of taking the heroin, Charlie died from a heroin overdose.

Who injected the heroin into Charlie? Was it Charlie? Was It Ellis? Was it Jordan? Did Ellis and Jordan act together Martine says it was Ellis and Jordan, who lost patience with Charlie and injected her. Ellis and Jordan say it was Charlie who did so voluntarily.

Ellis and Jordan are now charged with Manslaughter.

The judge is a real judge. The jury will be selected on the night from those in the (in person) audience who volunteer to be placed in the pool. The barristers are students or former students of the law school and the witnesses are all your actors. The barristers and actors have no script. Anything could happen. The verdict will be up to the jury.

After the verdict has been delivered, the actors will show you what really happened.

ART31

ART31 takes its name from Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child, which states that ‘Children have the right to relax and play, and to join in a wide range of cultural, artistic and other recreational activities’.

ART31 is a vision created with, by, and for young people in Kent, championing the belief that all children and young people have an entitlement to access high quality arts and culture, to empower them to achieve their creative potential, and to genuinely engage young people as equal partners in any decision making that affects them.

The ART31 Youth Board is made up of young people from across Kent aged 13-25 who steer its governance, and influence policy and practice across the county and beyond, challenging the creative sector to examine existing ways of working and integrate young people into the core of their practice.
