As part of Canterbury Shakespeare Festival 2024...
Rosalind, banished by her uncle, escapes with her cousin Celia into the Forest of Arden, where her father is living in exile with members of his court, alongside simple country folk. There, dressed as a boy, Rosalind encounters Orlando, the man she loves, and tests his feelings for her while maintaining her disguise. Thanks to the redeeming effect of the pastoral setting, various pairs of lovers are eventually happily united. This production of the play will be set in the 1960s, when the hippy culture rejected the status quo, advocating ‘flower power’, nonviolence and love as alternatives to the restrictions of traditional society.
