Truth to Power Cafe Participant Opportunity

28 Jan 2019

You are invited to participate in ‘Truth to Power Cafe’ on Thursday 28th February at 7:30pm.

‘Truth to Power Cafe is a 60-minute performance event devised by award-winning theatre maker Jeremy Goldstein. The event is intercut with monologue, poetry, image, music, memoir and live & spontaneous testimony from participants speaking truth to power in response to the question ‘who has power over you and what do you want to say to them?

Speaking truth to power has its roots in the anti-war movement and is a non-violent means of conflict resolution. In our era of fake-news, alternative fact and post-truth, speaking truth to power is now widely accepted to mean saying something to those in authority, or position of trust who don’t want to hear it.

Participants of all ages, beliefs and backgrounds can take part in the event, and will have up to five minutes to respond to the question before a live audience.

We encourage participants to interpret the question in ways which are meaningful to them. Participants write their own speeches and are supported by Jeremy at every stage in the project. Past participants have spoken from the personal, professional or the political addressing diverse topics including addiction, advertising, sexual abuse, grief, fear, depression, love, HIV, bullies, Down Syndrome, and familial relationships. Many of our participants also speak about power as a force for good in their lives.

All participants are professionally photographed and their portraits are included in the show itself as part of the finale. After the event we gift a digital print and upload your image to the project website along with your story as part of our online archive. Take a look at the website for past examples of participant images and their stories here:

To register interest and take part in the event please sign up via the website and send in no more than 150 words about who you are and what you’d like to speak about.
