October half term & Halloween 2017

12 Oct 2017

Plenty of performances and screenings to keep any little ones busy during the autumnal week and to get you in the mood for Halloween, Gulbenkian is screening an abundant selection of spooky treats!

For families there are three beautiful, can’t be missed, performances coming to Gulbenkian. On Sunday 22 October the pioneers of puppet musical, Monstro theatre present Bookstory. A celebration of imagination, books and libraries Bookstory engages with the challenges of the digital age by exploring our deep fondness for the simpler age of the page. This is a magical show where books flutter their pages and let their shelves go.

Followed by Friday 27 October performance of The Steadfast Tin Solider, brought delicately to life by Norwich Puppet Theatre & Banyan Theatre Company. Tumble through this retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s poetic story of a tin solider who fell in love before embarking on a perilous journey into the unknown.

Just before school restarts, join us on Sunday 29 October for Tutti Frutti’s Ugly Duckling and meet the most unusual duckling the pond has ever seen. Move through all four seasons as Hans Christian Andersen’s well-known tale is given a new lease of life. This charming production plays with ideas of identity, self-worth and the journey to discover inner beauty. Touching and enjoyable from start to finish.

For film fans we kick off the October half term on Sunday 22 October with a Disney classic returning to the big screen. Aladdin will burst onscreen in all its glory, its charm as obvious as it was when it first graced cinemas.

Mixing horror classics with a terrifying new release, come along to Gulbenkian’s shocktastic build up to Halloween.

On Friday 27 October, Gulbenkian is screening a special 30th anniversary release of Clive Barker’s iconic directorial debut Hellraiser. Witness the film that launched a hit franchise and created one of cinema’s most formidable figures of Pinhead once more on the big screen. Now 30 years on, this horror classic will still have you on the edge of your seat as we come head-to-head with the Cenobites once again…

Come along in your finest Halloween fancy dress and Potter gear for a Halloween special screening of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
