Richard Thompson needs no introduction to discerning music fans. Founding member of Fairport Convention alongside Ashley Hutchings and Simon Nicol, and named by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the Top 20 Guitarists of All Time, Thompson is also one of the world’s most critically acclaimed and prolific songwriters.
This event was due to run on 18 July 2020. Due to the coronavirus outbreak this event has now been postponed until 15 July 2021.
He has received Lifetime Achievement Awards for Song writing on both sides of the Atlantic- from the Americanas in Nashville to Britain’s BBC Awards, and the prestigious Ivor Novellos. In 2011 Thompson was the recipient of the OBE personally bestowed upon him by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace. Most recently he was nominated for “Artist of the Year” by the Americana Music Honors & Awards.
In 2017, Richard Thompson gave himself up to the music itself. Picking up a guitar, emotions echoed through his deft fleet-fingered fretwork, poetic songwriting, impassioned picking. Those transmissions comprise his nineteenth solo album, 13 Rivers.
“I never really think about what songs mean,” he admits. “I just write them. Some of them reflect on what happened a few months ago or even a year ago. It’s a process of surveying my life and where I was at.”
In 2019 Richard celebrated his 70th birthday with a star-studded concert at the Royal Albert Hall, there wasn’t a spare seat in the house.
