Fairport Convention has been entertaining music lovers for over half a century, with 2022 being their 55th anniversary. During that time the band that launched British folk-rock has seen many changes. But one thing has remained the same - Fairport’s passion for performance.

This year’s winter tour will present a mix of long-established Fairport favourites and some surprises from albums old and new including their latest album, Shuffle & Go, which was released just before ‘lockdown’ in 2020.

Fairport Convention have won a BBC Lifetime Achievement Award and Radio 2 listeners voted their ground-breaking album Liege & Lief ‘The Most Influential Folk Album of All Time’. Their story has been celebrated with television documentaries on BBC Four and Sky Arts.

The band features founding member Simon Nicol on guitar and vocals, Dave Pegg on bass guitar, Ric Sanders on violin, Chris Leslie on fiddle, mandolin and vocals, and Gerry Conway on drums and percussion.

“Stuffing their set with a surprising amount of new material for a vintage act, Fairport are still clearly having fun and brought the house down.” The Guardian

“Fairport is an institution, a festival, purveyors of memories, and keepers of the folk flame. But most of all they are a brilliant live band.” Folk & Tumble

Special Guest – Luke Jackson

Luke Jackson, now 25, is an enigmatic and powerful singer songwriter from here in Canterbury drawing on his experiences, family life and poignant stories.

His performance style and song writing skills are constantly developing and improving as confirmed by him winning Album of the Year award 2019 from Fatea for his album; Journals, along with Male Artist of the Year in 2014 and 2016, and being nominated in 2013 for the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Best Emerging Talent and Young Folk Categories. His latest album Journals is a brand new studio recording of 11 self penned tracks with one, timeless and sublimely executed cover which was released in November 2019 and has gained amazing reviews.

ART31

ART31 takes its name from Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child, which states that ‘Children have the right to relax and play, and to join in a wide range of cultural, artistic and other recreational activities’.

ART31 is a vision created with, by, and for young people in Kent, championing the belief that all children and young people have an entitlement to access high quality arts and culture, to empower them to achieve their creative potential, and to genuinely engage young people as equal partners in any decision making that affects them.

The ART31 Youth Board is made up of young people from across Kent aged 13-25 who steer its governance, and influence policy and practice across the county and beyond, challenging the creative sector to examine existing ways of working and integrate young people into the core of their practice.
