As part of Elevate slow conference in disabled-led and accessible arts!

Working digitally offers so many innovative solutions to making the arts more accessible, but sometimes we need to see how other people have actually made it work!

In this online seminar, guest arts organisations share their different approaches to digitising accessibility in recent projects to inspire and demystify digital and hybrid practice.

Lily Norton shares their work on Stopgap Dance Company’s recent full-length production Lived Fiction as onstage access artist, and opens up the process of embedding audio description and creative captioning.

Vicki Oliver, Artistic Director of 1 & ¾ Theatre, discusses the creation of hybrid roles in new devised play, The Waiting Room, casting a working-from-home actor through live streaming.

Esther Fox, head of Accentuate, and digital artist Manuel Vason, describe how ground-breaking programme Curating for Change has created work placements and accessibility for D/deaf and disabled curators in museums, thanks to a substantial National Lottery Heritage grant.

This session is for organisations and practitioners wanting to explore innovative approaches to embedding digital accessibility in their work.

This is an online session and will also be recorded. To access online or access the recording, book a ticket as normal and an online joining link and link to Elevate recordings will be sent to you.

Access:

  • Live captioning will be available through Zoom.
  • This session will be supported by an access facilitator.

ART31

ART31 takes its name from Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child, which states that ‘Children have the right to relax and play, and to join in a wide range of cultural, artistic and other recreational activities’.

ART31 is a vision created with, by, and for young people in Kent, championing the belief that all children and young people have an entitlement to access high quality arts and culture, to empower them to achieve their creative potential, and to genuinely engage young people as equal partners in any decision making that affects them.

The ART31 Youth Board is made up of young people from across Kent aged 13-25 who steer its governance, and influence policy and practice across the county and beyond, challenging the creative sector to examine existing ways of working and integrate young people into the core of their practice.
