Kent’s brand new spoken word night bringing the finest talent in from around the country and county.

Hosted by World Poetry Slam Champion and (more importantly) Kent poetry slam champion Harry Baker, the night will have featured acts representing the very best that spoken word has to offer, alongside local talent being given the platform it deserves. Whether you are a poetry pro or a virgin to verse, a lyrical miracle or just curious, there is something for everyone.

Our headliner for April is Tony Walsh.

Tony Walsh

“Tony Walsh stunned millions of people” (Huffington Post) with his now iconic poem This Is The Place in the aftermath of the Manchester bomb in 2017. “The moment that went viral…the world is talking about it.” (CBC Canada.) “Now a national hero” (The Guardian), international audiences are quickly discovering what has been an open secret for well over a decade: an evening with Tony Walsh is a rip-roaring rock and roller-coaster ride from a profoundly inspiring artist at the very top of his game. Forget what you imagined a poetry night could be and expect belly-laughs, tears and everything in between from this stunning, big-hearted performer who often leaves audiences on their feet, dazzled and breathless.

Ellie Ward

Ellie is a writer born and bred in Thanet. Since graduating from university in 2018, Ellie has been performing her poetry across Kent. Ellie’s poetry touches on female friendship, female gaze and queer / heteronormative desire. Her work is heavily located in her regionality and (bi)sexuality. Queer sunsets, orgasms and porn-star martinis all feature. Her poetic technique is playful: Similes are a big deal, and so is humour. Whilst her poetry touches on serious topics, it is always lively and a little bit mischievous. If you don’t laugh, you cry, right?

Our work with young people

Children and Young People are at the heart of what we do, as audience members, as participants and as thought leaders.

Through our landmark ART31 project we are working with young people and partners in Kent to create new opportunities through the arts for under 25's across the county.

Below are some of our current projects focused on the development of young people.
